Chuquimamani-Condori is the Aymara name of the California-based artist belonging to the Great Pakajaqi nation, currently occupied by the states of Bolivia, Chile, and Argentina. Following their lauded earlier releases under different project names, Chuquimamani-Condori arrives in their wake to set them alight and create something new in their ashes. They take the magical use of sampling and cultural collaging that has formed the bedrock of their sound and bury them deep under a layer of spirited, distorted, and noise-encrusted soil.

Fueled by an ethos less bound by genre and more bound by feeling, Brian Leeds makes music for the mind and for the floor, finding lost artifacts and carving out sounds that speak to an altered state of home, or place. Music that plays tricks on your brain, music that makes you question or surrender your mind, music very much rooted in audio archaeology and personal exploration. Coming out from playing punk and metal bands as a teenager in Kansas, Brian picked up dance music as “ it was the opposite of what I’d been involved with for so long. I wanted something more tangible, less abrasive and more sensual ”

SESSION 013:
YHWH Nailgun
with Morgan Garrett

wednesday, april 25
in the salon
doors: 08:30pm
21+

The quartet of Zack Borzone (vox), Jack Tobias (synth), Sam Pickard (drums), and Saguiv Rosenstock (guitar) display an innate ability to translate a primitive spirit into a modern form. Born during the lockdown as an experimental project between Borzone and Pickard in Philadelphia, the group expanded as the two moved to New York, adding Tobias for their debut self-titled EP, which was produced by Rosenstock, who was then integrated into the band. That first collection is one of self-discovery, of finding the tools necessary to make songs within the band’s own ecosystem. They honed in on their own world and their collaborative, close-knit writing process, discovering the essential structures and feelings that make YHWH Nailgun.
